Dency Nelson is a Board Member of the Little Fish Theatre, which was established in San Pedro in 2002 in a rent-free space, after 4 years of itinerancy in various park venues as “Shakespeare by the Sea”. The space was dirty and needed a lot of refurbishment, but they made it work and for the next 20 years staged at least 10 shows per season, attracting a faithful South Bay audience. Their program has included contemporary, classical, existential drama, short plays and holiday offerings.
After a few years, they were charged a rent much below market value, but a year ago the property was sold for redevelopment, so they are again homeless and entertaining in a variety of other places in the South Bay and Long Beach area.
Now they are again looking for a permanent venue. Their ideal home would be 3000-3500 ft², ideally previously used as a similar venue or at least easily converted at low cost. It needs 1400 ft² of audience space including handicap-accessibility, ceiling height of 16-18 feet to accommodate lighting and sound grid, 3-4 dressing rooms, business office and lobby.
