President-Elect Roger Schamp (wearing his new red Rotary shirt) outlined the main themes of his recent President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) for the 6 Districts in Southern California and Nevada.  The 3-day budget at the Marriott Hotel was $300,000.  The plenary speakers presented a large amount of information which Roger is still trying to assimilate.  He is planning for the next Rotary year 2014-15 and has e-mailed a survey to our Club’s membership, which he wants us each to write in our preferences and return to him at RGSchamp@aol.com.

Rotary leaders want us to recognize both individuals and Clubs for outstanding service.  As an example of service recognition, the recent Outstanding Service Award to our Club by the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce was for our Club’s community service over the preceding year.

Larry Andrews, our Membership Chair, said that every new-member sponsor during each Rotary year will be recognized by RI, especially for larger numbers of new members.  Clubs will also be recognized for outstanding recruitment of new members.  Are you having a great time?  Share Rotary!  (Erv Samuelson is our Club’s all-time champion of membership recruitment, with about 76 total new members over his Rotary career.)

The next District humanitarian trip is to Guatemala in February 2015.  Jacques Naviaux, Don Reeves and Wes Bradford were asked to relate their Rotary humanitarian experiences in Mexico (orphanage), in our local community (4-H), and in Uganda and India (Polio-Corrective Surgery).

Because of having larger (but fewer) Rotary Foundation grants in the future, signing a new Memo of Understanding (MOU) will be required for responsible Grant-project leaders at the District, Foundation, and Club levels who will be managing these funds and documents and assuring satisfactory completion of the projects.  2-3 hours of online MOU training will be available for the Club President, Treasurer, Foundation Chair, and any other members participating in managing the finances and documents for both Global and District-level grants.  The Clubs will be the ultimate stewards of the money, budget, and on-time completion.  Our Foundation Chair PDG Dave Moyers commended our members for our past generosity to the Foundation, especially those who are Paul Harris Society members ($1000/year).
