Margie Beierschmitt has been the Executive Director of Peninsula Seniors since 2021, its only fulltime employee. Her parents were well-known Peninsula doctors and Rotarians, Erwin and Alberta Samuelson. (The late Erwin Samuelson helped to found our Rotary Club and recruited dozens of members to Rotary. Alberta Samuelson is a current member of our Club.)

Margie worked in aerospace finance for 18 years. She was a substitute teacher in South Bay elementary schools for 9 years, taught 3rd grade for a year in Hawaii, and then managed her parents’ medical offices. She has been an active Rotarian. She married her husband, Don, in 2008.

Peninsula Seniors, (310) 377-3003, is more than 30 years old and serves about 1000 members of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. They started in temporary trailers at Rancho Palos Verdes city hall, and are now in a more central location at 602 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 310, next to the main library in Rolling Hills Estates.

Margie publishes its monthly 12-page newsletter (see copy online at https://pvseniors.org/), which has a very extensive description of programs and activities in education, games & sports, health & wellness, social activities, and discounts on cultural events and day trips. Examples of activites include holiday luncheons, Super-Bowl parties, Yosemite trip by Amtrak, movies, foreign language practice, writers’ group, art appreciation, book club, ping pong, 90+ club, lectures, PV walkers, and veterans programs. Local businesses have ads with Hot Deals for Peninsula Seniors when you show your Peninsula Seniors membership card.

Reasons to join Peninsula Seniors include having a special place to meet and make friends, feeling a sense of purpose and well-being in a group, improving health and staying sharp. It provides ways to support the community with donations, volunteering and participation. Basic membership costs $80 per person or $130 per couple. Silver, Gold, and Platinum memberships have additional features, and Diamond membership is once for lifetime.
