PV Sunset Past Pres and Project ego chair John Turner opened the program and introduced the Project EGO personnel, including Robert Babb, Kelly Baranick, Madeleine Creighton and Principal Rosemary Humphries. Special thanks to Rowena Schaben, whose generous financial support this year and previous years have been important to Project EGO’s success.

Robert Babb, MFT, who was instrumental in developing Project EGO, reviewed the importance of identifying and offering special assistance to high school students at risk of not graduating for various reasons including emotional, family and academic obstacles. Students at risk are identified by teachers and counselors, and are encouraged to apply to the program. Students who are accepted must attend regular monthly meetings on subjects such as employment applications, resume writing, career planning and college or vocational school applications. They learn how to dress for success and have experience in presenting a talk to their fellow students to develop more confidence in important life skills. They receive individual assessments and coaching as well as group interactions and learning to work as a team.

Madeleine Creighton introduced each of the students and summarized their academic interests and plans, and each student briefly described his/her experiences and future goals. Scholarship awards were announced, ranging from $500-$1750, which will be paid directly to the higher educational institution attended.

We congratulate all of these students for their very impressive records in academic achievement and school and community activities. The students all agreed that Project EGO has helped them find their path to successful careers and life skills.
