Jon Kaplan introduced our speaker, Mark Comon of Paul’s Photo in Torrance. Paul’s was established in 1961 by Mark's father. His mother and Mark and now the grandchildren have also worked there. It has cameras, binoculars, lenses, photo supplies, and also a variety of photography classes for different ages and skill levels.

Mark leads “in the field” experiences on photo safaris to places like Tanzania, Japan, Alaska, Bryce & Zion National Parks, and Yellowstone National Park in winter. He described these interesting places illustrated by a photo slideshow of the safari participants and examples of their high quality photos.

These trips are programmed to have fun every day. Mark's advice is to pack light with casual dress in a soft carry-on bag. He showed examples of the accommodations, which look surprisingly comfortable in a semi-wilderness area. Local transportation is on a Land Rover, and they meet interesting local people as well as spectacular wildlife and scenery.

Groups are about 12-20 participants, and he encourages taking the entire family as a meaningful gift of experience for children and grandchildren. Paul’s is located at 23845 Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance, 310-375-7014, www.Paulsphoto.com.
